"Without doubt, this is the best compact camera I have come across - I normally use a Canon EOS-1nHS film camera, and have despite trying many digital items, have never found one I wanted to own.
This is much better, with handling similar to a top-notch SLR, superb quality images, lots of different settings, and if you have any knowledge of how a camera works, it is possible to start using it without even looking at the instructions!
You can also set up features as shortcuts, if you find the need to used something that is not instantly available (which I would guess is pretty unlikely)
The zoom has an excellent 12x range, and even the digital zoom (which extends it to 48x) gives good quality images.
Definitely highly recommended and a good complement to the EOS system, if you can't be bothered to carry everything around or you're limited for space.
Amazon delivery was lightning quick, box arrived before 8am (1pm promised) on day after I placed order.

"I really like the quality of the pictures taken with Canon PowerShot S5 IS Digital camera . One of the best features, and the real selling point for me about this camera is the "video" button. Switching from taking a picture to creating a video is simply by pushing the "video" button. No delay. Also, I like the feature while taking video, that I am able to use the zoom feature.

"There was a lot to like about the Canon PowerShot S3 IS, and much of it remains in this year's PowerShot S5 IS, including Canon's veteran optical image-stabilization technology, excellent metering and focusing systems, the signature flip-and-twist LCD display, and a hefty set of manual and semimanual controls. Canon PowerShot S5 IS Digital camera bumps up to 8 megapixels from the S3's 6-megapixel sensor, increases the LCD size from 2 to 2.5 inches, and adds trendy bonus features like face-detection autofocus/autoexposure, maximum sensitivity of ISO 1600, and an ISO-shift mode that lets you jack up the setting with a button press when the camera tells you the shutter speed is too slow. We can thank the upgrade to a Digic III processor for many of the new capabilities.

"Canon PowerShot S5 IS Digital camera was a quick choice to replace our old camera when it died. I read a few positive reviews and it fit the budget. I'm VERY pleased with our choice.

There are lots of settings to capture moments in all different lights. Thus far, I've found they work pretty well.
The video is amazing. High resolution, up to 30 minutes (4 GB). Who needs a separate video camera if you've got a digital camera that does that much?
You can take still pictures while taking a video. Canon PowerShot S5 IS Digital camera *does* stop the video for a second, which is annoying.
The LCD monitor is very clear, and easy to use.
The camera feels very good in your hands.
Takes quick pictures, and I've been really pleased to be capturing more of the brief photo-worthy moments of my kids.
We're only a month into this camera, but I couldn't be happier. We paid $330 for it, and it's been worth every penny. Only problem is that we're taking so many pictures, we're going to need a new hard drive to store all the files! "
