The PowerShot A530 is equipped with an approximately 5.0 million camera effective pixel 1/2.5-inch Charge Coupled Device (CCD). Also, with DIGIC II, higher resolution and high-speed processing were achieved and the startup time and response time were shortened. This camera is equipped with the 4x optical zoom lens, which covers a 35mm film equivalent focal length ranging from 35 mm (Wide Angle) to 140 mm (Telephoto) and an f/2.6 (Wide Angle) - f/5.5 (Telephoto) aperture.

"Very good cheap camera, I used for many vacations and tourist tours. The quality of the imges is good, with good details, good color and contrast. The perfect camera during the day. At night... see below.

Very good auto focus system, with helping lamp (never had a bed picture, out of the thousends taken).

Problems
At night, it suffers when excluding the flash, because any picture taken at ISO over the 200 is unacceptable (400 and especially 800 is very noisy, and grainy).

I would have appreciate a lot a shutter/aperture priority mode, that is absent. Considering that it is not present a "sport" mode in the "scenes" selection, it is not possible to force a fast shutter speed, and this can be a problem when taking a picture of a moving subject, or from a moving car...

""My kids wanted to take pictures underwater with their camera. The underwater housings sold by Canon were quite expensive and they didn't carry one for this camera. We found this on the B&H website. It works great! You can take both underwater pictures and video. The pictures and video come out clear. You can even hear the sound underwater. The skin is a little hard to squeeze the camera into but once it is on, Canon PowerShot A530 Digital camera is completely waterproof. The price is great!! We have only used it in a pool. I'm sure it isn't meant to be used scuba diving or snorkling really deep. We area having a blast with this underwater skin for the camera.!"

"Canon PowerShot A530 Digital camera is an ideal camera for both quick point and shoot enthusiasts and those wishing to experiment in photography.
Over the years I've had various cameras both SLR and compact and this Cannon A530 is my first digital.
I was impressed by the results after quickly reading the short form handbook - using AUTO setting. Both indoor & outdoor colours were true and in focus.
The camera comes with all the cables and discs necessary for computer loading and an extra disc which contains a rather lengthy in depth user handbook !

"For its price and class, Canon PowerShot A530 Digital camera is a very good camera. No significant distortion for wide-angle shots, good quality images at below ISO 800, after which pictures get noisy. Its also hard to get rid of blur if you don't have a tripod at high ISO. I haven't noticed any fringing either. Not good for night shots without a tripod - too much blur.

Auto-mode seems to work best. The SCN, movie, portrait, landscape modes are very good. You can also set it to take upto 10 pictures very fast which comes in handy for action shots. "
